6:06 am
>> is going to be an awesome day. a lot of controversy leading up today, but it's going to be a celebration. it is a great day for that most americans should be celebrating. >> people are just an odd this morning. even if you didn't vote for him, you have to feel proud as we watch this transfer of power. >> having sat on the platform and watching the person with the foot all, the nuclear codes, kind of take a step over at 12:00. it's like wow. president obama becomes who see in donald trump becomes the most powerful man in the world. it's an awesome experience to watch the next areas. >> we talked about the physical security, but what about possible cybersecurity threat? >> they are all a tear. we walked through three layers of security to get here this morning.
6:07 am
>> maria s. top security clearance. >> you walk through. there's always going to be physical attacks inside various aesthetics. over the last couple of years is always a vulnerability. who knows if somebody made it today. dagen: one of the gentleman who works in the building where we are right now remarked to me this morning, he growth in washington and said i've never seen this level of security, not even for president obama's inauguration in 2008 or four years ago as well. he said this is unpredented. >> it's unprecedented. it shows they are betty, have practiced this summer at both of the national conventions who thinks that the same thing. maria: they are overprepared and yet i feel like the stories of hacking and drive to our intelligence have never been
6:08 am
higher. >> the threat is amazing out there. you take a look at what is going on in the middle east. it's an ongoing threat everywhere and that will be one of the major challenges that donald trump is going to have to organize again in the first few months. obviously they've got to have some type of success today to take some of the shine off the base american experience. maria: the president-elect will carry 50 people from the obama administration. we were told to help for mental trump's team is in place. tell us about the work going on behind the scenes in terms of what goes on to the smooth transition. >> obviously lots of conversation. congressman pompeo has a close translation working relationship between director of the cia. brennan has that going on about the department's element purity, just to make sure you are moving.
6:09 am
think about it, not only changing 4,005,000 people, but the country is moving in a different direction. people three months ago were fighting each other in a campaign and now they've got to say you're in charge and we will help you do it. the indications are some hiccups, but when it comes to security issues, they've pretty much been seamless and the important thing is that the grassroots. the cop on the street, making sure nothing changes there. dagen: i want to add i'm not the fact the fifth the essential state department and national security staffers are studying the new york times wrote what i found to be incredibly negative article about the trump administration being behind the eight ball. not had their planning. 29 at six under 6016 executive department so far. and on inauguration day to write an article like that this sounds like what got into the granular
6:10 am
and turned it into a big name. >> the other part of this is the obstacle by democrats. he talked about my pompeo, that madison kelley we are far behind in the far behind in the sense of confirmation hearings that approval is good but are your thoughts on that? >> "the new york times" say, donald trump and his administration deal that they need some help, holly that he appeared for the obama people to say of course we will stay and make sure america is safe. that's something to celebrate, not criticized. dagen: there is a bridge between the outgoing and incoming president. that's where there's been overlapping obama talked about outside we've offered help and there it is. trade to the key is the media has just refusing to accept donald trump as the president. but there is a "new york times" or "washington post" or even cnn. some of this tori sites and are just appalling and in many cases not true.
6:11 am
>> the story about the kerry that he didn't understand the job he was accepting. the one source i'm not that often that. >> back to the factories this obstruction right now. sad that cabinet members were confirmed. three to ensure not only national security officials are pushed forward and confirmed quick we, but also the treasury secretary, commerce secretary makes the process easier because going through the transition process in 2004 is chaotic, takes a while to fill all these 4005 than they are going to need it. maria: its leadership. chuck schumer is calling it the swamp cabinet. >> the american people will be on donald trump side. sometime next week he will tweet out by his senate job working on the weekend? we need to get these cabinet secretaries in place that we can make america great again.
6:12 am
if they want to vet these people mark on the go ahead. they just work a little harder and geit done. dagen: president trump is going to name names, though. he's going to call people out by names. >> that the difference. the uncertainty around predictability of donald trump will keep people on their toes. >> you've worked with mike fontenot. but to expect in this new administration? >> my pompeo will bring it back to be an intelligence community and not political operation. i know john brennan. i knew him from the first time i had the underwear bomber flying into detroit. he comes at this from a political angle. my pompeo is going to say i'm doing nothing but getting great intelligent, building a great intelligence that were. i will present you with the information, mr. president. you and your team, but the policy that my job is to give you great information.
6:13 am
maria: this is an important point that they look of the intelligence community or department of justice or irs come in many agencies have been politicized. dagen: that are so right. the obama administration was driven in president obama was driven by social agenda and political agenda. not making people's lives better. that ultimately is like make people trust the irs again. maria: costin and refuse to step down. we know the irs targeted conservatives. if you don't pay you go to jail. so that's a scary thing for somebody. >> donald trump was not up her with the intelligence community. he was out for with their leadership which are political appointees. he will support the men and women in the field. >> you think they will politicize agencies?
6:14 am
>> it all comes from the top and yes they will. maria: good to see you. thanks for driven affair. the promises of ridesharing made to its drivers that is costing $20 million. bake in america great. welcoming president-elect trump to the white house with a new scented candle.ch be right back. in ourestmt experice around the world. call us or your advisor... t. rowe price. invest with confidence. with sleep number, there's an adjustment for that. tilt your tormentor and put those snores to sleep. does your bed do that? come into a sleep number store where the queen c4 mattress is now $1199. it's a no brainer.

and most dangerous drug trafficking organizations. expected to appear at a brooklyn federal courthouse today. also reporting mexico wanted to extradite before donald trump became president because a quote from the post doesn't trust the incoming administration. uber has agreed to pay $20 million to resolve charges that it misled drivers about how much they could earn. the federal trade commission saying drivers could make specific annual earnings but very few of them ever did. for example, transfer claimed the driver could earn $90,000 in europe are less than 10% of drivers ever made that much money. transfer will focus on ensuring it is the best option rather than looking to earn money on their own schedule. finally this, trump seemed merchandise has been selling like hotcakes is enough like hotcakes at him after the migration. one of the hotter items, the trump kindle sold my jd and cate

6:30 a.m. on the east coast. historic day in our nation's capitol. donald trump set to take the oath of office this afternoon to become the 45th president of the united states. the event requiring massive security preparations despite no specific credible threats, authorities are on high alert. the weather a big question mark this morning. trump says he expects a beautiful day. well, noon marks a new year for the country. not all of the leadership will be in charge. the senate is expect today confirm several cabinet pix later today but it could take weeks to fill all of the positions regardless of when they are confirmed, trump says he's excited to get to work. >> tom price was so nice to come . [laughter] >> man, they found out, man, he's smart. we have a lot of smart people. we have by far the highest iq of any cabinet ever picked. [cheers and applause] maria: the transition of power
6:34 am
coming up this morning, meanwhile markets look like this. the market is looking higher right now, dow industrial showing about 9 points, nasdaq composite sharing up 15 points, quarter a percent. dow industrial coming off the fifth straight losing session yesterday. it is now in the red for 2017, however, the rally since election night is still in place about 7%. in europe stoc are slightly higher, take a look, markets have reverse course in the last 20 minutes, we were looking at weakness earlier, europe as well as the u.s. in positive territory. donald trump's rise may seem straight out of hollywood movie. we are taking a look at top presidents in silver screen in honor of donald j. trump. many are protesting his inauguration across the country. peter barnes is live right now with that an frl the national mall. peter, good morning to you. >> hey, good morning, maria. that's right.
6:35 am
we are by the west front of the capitol getting ready for the events later today and the inaugural speech by the president elect who will then be president but there are a lot of activities going on outside of the mall perimeter including a lot of protest, we saw them here last night here in washington, d.c. to start out from the national press club in 14th street, a group of protrump people, trump supporters wanted to have their own party and they had a little fun with the word deplorable bles, the called it the deploraball, as they gathered they were heckled by protestors, some of them screaming at them nazi go home, scum, terrible, terrible things and there were some fires, one arrest. our colleague caught up one of the people who set one of those fires, a very young man.
6:36 am
listen. >> ayou are participating in this fire. >> i actually started the fire. >> why did you start the fire, carter? >> connor. >> why did you start the fire? >> because i felt like and i say -- >> okay, well, there you have it. maria: peter, thank you so much, peter barnes. the senate is expected to vote on two cabinet picks today. nominees retired marine corps general james ma his a joamland securit nominee john kelly. this coming after treasury pick steven mnuchin was grilled yesterday. it got pretty that's, listen. >> mr. trump suggested that he could somehow refinance or renegotiate our existing debt,
6:37 am
do you agree with his statements? >> the president has made it perfectly clear and i think perfectly clear that honoring the u.s. debt is the most important thing. >> let me be clear, i would like us to raise the debt ceiling rather than later. >> that's fair enough for me. >> would you agree that your boss is famous for firing people? >> well, he has a show about it but other than the show -- >> do you think -- well, sometimes it's a blurred line at this point. we are not sure where the show stops and where the reality begins, do you think he will hesitate to fire people if he disagrees with them or he believes they're doing a bad job? >> if they disagrees with him, no, i can tell you the president elect and i have disagreed on things, sometimes i've been able to convince him and sometimes i haven't and i haven't been fired .
6:38 am
maria: chairman and ceo harold. >> good to be with you. maria: how do you think he handled himself, first of all? >> first of all, i think steven is qualified for the job and overall he's going to do the best he can answering some hard questions and so -- maria: i don't know what it was. it had no substance. >> well, you know, obviously you have to let people go once in a while. it's unfortunate but not everybody performs. maria: do you think president trump will get picks as cabinet or some will be stalled. >> i think all -- maa: you think thell all be
6:39 am
confirmed? >> so i think that he'll achieve confirmation. maria: of course, you have been a great adviser to the president elect on energy and now rick perry is in the spotlight, the former governor of texas to lead the energy department as well. let's take a look. >> okay. >> my past statements made over five years ago about abolishing the department of energy do not reflect my current thinking. in fact, after being briefed on so many of the vital functions of department of energy i regret recommending its elimination. >> it's hard to see how we can pursue an all of the above strategy if some of the departments of all of the above capabilities are eliminated. my question is, do you support these cuts? yes or no? >> well, senator, maybe they'll have the same experience i had and forget that they said that, but -- [laughter] >> we are counting on you.
6:40 am
we are counting on you to educate the incoming president. maria: actually there were a few funny moments in the perry hearing actually, that was funny. do you think he will get confirmed and what do you want to see from the incoming secretary? >> they have a lot of people there to -- it's a big administration and those big agencies, it's full-time job, a lot of it, you know, a lot of people think it's strictly about oil and gas but certainly atomic energy is a big part of what they do. and, you know, there's -- i think he will do a very good job, as governor of texas, biggest energy-producing state in the nation and he's very well versed on what he needs to do. maria: given what you know and your vantage point running continental resources, can you give us a sense on where the
6:41 am
opportunities are? the president elect has said many times that he wants to tap into energy resources throughout america, how do you do that? >> well, first of all, you honor what's going on and that's the american energy renaissance and, you know, develop the largest gas building in the world, take advantage of all the oil resources that we have today, the balkin, permian, we are still finding new oil in this country and certainly can double production again, so we doubled it once, we can do it again. you have to let it go to do that and certainly without it we are feeding, you know, enemies in the middle east and others. maria: how significant is the oil patch throughout the country where you just mentioned
6:42 am
obviously the hot spots in terms of being a job creator? >> well, you know, we have added a million jobs during this energy renaissance and essential had to make drastic cutbacks last two years with what went on with opec and those jobs will come back and they have come back. they are coming back now, you know, as we go back to work and certainly, you know, these are high-paying jobs. you know, everybody thinks about a roughneck being out there, but we are talking about highly-skilled work, you know, to direct a bit down 2 miles to the right or left and develop these fields. these are high-paying jobs and certainly can do a great deal for americans, put us back to work. maria: if donald trump is effective in terms of putting us back to work via the oil sector, that would suggest that we will have a lot of oil in this
6:43 am
country, we will be a great oil producer in the world, doesn't that long-term, i know these are long-term contracts, doesn't that send oil prices lower long-term? >> well, you know, demand has gone up. we are about a hundred million barrels a day. close to right now, the last couple of years, you know, 1.6 million-barrels in 2015, 1.3 million-barrels of new oil last year and certainly we should deserve get our part of that, our share of that, so, yes, you know -- everybody looks at it, well, we could be, you know, one of the largest oil producers. we are. maria: with more oil, doesn't that send prices lower? >> well, we oversupplied the market just a little bit but it's caught up, you know, demand caught up with it and certainly, you know, we had opec members
6:44 am
that was flooding the market and brought in -- we cut back a million barrels and they added a million barrels and so did russia. maria: good to see you, harold hamm, ceo of continental's in he resources. stay with us, we will be right back we touch millions of lives every day. conduent. advancing the everyday.

maria: welcome back, well, we had a pretty good reversal of fortune in the markets, it's not much. but certainly we have seen the markets go from negative to positive. we are now expecting a fractionally firmer opening for the dow industrials, nasdaq certainly seemed a bit up about 13 points this morning and the dow jones industrial average is showing a fractional gain. we are watching shows of western credit union this morning. the company agree today pay 586 million-dollar fine for turning a blind eye as criminals used service. company admitted to aiding and abetting by allowing scammers to process transactions from 2004-2012. it is inauguration day and we are watching the sky and the weather to see what mother
